h3. About Today’s Show

Numbers are a funny thing. They can simultaneously mean a lot and very little. Yes, they are fun milestones that can be used to track or measure progress on a path. But you know — today is just another day, just like yesterday and presumably like tomorrow. So I like to use the numbers for fun, not pressure.

Lexi has certainly developed a screen presence over the months. Plus she is as demanding as ever to go to the beach every day! I do believe she is enjoying the Beach Walks very much. Thank you for all the love and support you give her.

Beach Walk #99 – #2 Creates Confusion

I don’t think there are #3′s – the #2 just gets easily confused.

h3. About Today’s Show

Jayne submitted a 100th Show Promo and raised a really good point: is there a #3 in addition to the #2? It’s quite easy to hear competing points of view in the midst of all the mental chatter.

I think there is just the #2, though s/he is an expert at being confused, and therefore simultaneously lobbying for opposite action!

h3. About Today’s Show

You’ve probably not noticed the garbage that can accumulate along our beautiful beaches here in Hawaii. Maybe you are seeing the big picture in the videos (plenty of beauty to be sure) or maybe the video is too small.

Nonetheless, we have plenty of trash left by beach visitors and washed ashore from ships alike. Kailua Sailboards sponsored their second annual beach clean up. If you signed up to clean up a stretch of the beach, you could earn two hours of free kayak rental. They provided the bags and were having the trash analyzed afterwards, for the latest in “trash trends.”

In our short walk of about 300 yards, we filled a big kitchen bag with dirty diapers, soda and beer cans of course, lots of plastic, and countless cigarrette butts.

h3. About Today’s Show

Shane edited an amazing show today for us. It is dedicated to my Dad in honor of his tremendous suffering in World War II, and with special thanks to my friend Eric, who has taught me more about life than he can imagine.

Today’s show was filmed at the Hawaii Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. 50,000 leis were donated, and over 100 young -Girl- Boy Scouts (thanks for the correction Mark) placed a lei and a flag on each gravestone. I was quite stirred to be in the presence of death while smelling the sweet scent of plumeria lei. Though most of those buried here are from modern wars, this “punchbowl” of an ancient volcano was the site of Hawaiian aliÊ»i burials and human sacrifice of those who violated the kapu or taboos.

I wonder if there is a trend taking place regarding war. World War II still has the aura of being a “good cause” war. Yet it was as devastating and terrifying as any war. My dad fought in Europe, and only recently has he been able or willing to discuss even the smallest details about it.

Now there is Iraq v2, and I am quite amazed at how many soldiers and generals are publicly challenging.

The times, they are a changin’. People like me who prefer to make love not war, welcome you!

Maybe future wars could be fought in Second Life. There would be less blood shed without sacrificing the thrill so many have for conflict.

h3. About Today’s Show

Today I am teasing apart the notion that just because you have been doing something for longer than someone else, you are automatically better at it. This gets bantered around a lot in sports, in business, heck, even in families! The “older” ones like to pull rank on the “younger” ones. But actually, it’s my observation that time is not the most determining factor for being competent at something, but rather curiosity and a willingness to both seek out and let in, new information.

Remember it doesn’t matter whether you are curious or not, whether you like to change and grow or not. Everyone is entitled to seek and use as much as or as little info as they like. I am definitely a seeker, and I must admit it bugs me when others try to pull rank on me for no reason other than more years.

So this is how I practice consciousness: stay neutral instead of judgmental when it comes to others ways of being, yet still be able to know and express my personal preferences.
