h3. About Today’s Show

I decided to take a walk in downtown Honolulu today as I heard some people were going to be delivering signatures to our senior Senator;s office in support of net neutrality. I was able to capture several people’s opinions on the issue, both at the Senator’s office as well as at a monthly tech networking lunch, Bytemarks.

People are plenty passionate about the issue, but aloha shirts and aloha spirit claim the day.

If you are new to Beach Walks, check out show #71 when we first discussed this topic.

h3. About Today’s Show

I realized paddling the other day that I was not releasing my blade soon enough on the right side, and that was causing me to work harder while gaining less forward momentum. What a revelation! “You mean, I could relax a little and actually have a more efficient paddling stroke?” Well, yes. Some might even say, duh.

But when I am deep into something, it’s hard to notice just where and how I might be applying too much effort. Having a change of conditions, in this case the water went to glass and the wind disappeared (aka all the background noise got quiet) and it was easy to see and feel where I could relax and let go and actually paddle smoother, stronger. It’s like a strategic application of laziness. Lexi knows just when to push and when to chill.

h3. About Today’s Show

Perspective is such a wonderful thing! Everybody’s gets to be right. I was thinking what Brittany mentioned on our Show #185 together, and how people think they know her from watching a few video blogs. I know the feeling of that. But then I also realize how little of my life you all actually get to see! You see, Beach Walks is as much a respite from daily life for me as it is for you. :-) In any case, feel free to send over your questions for me and I’ll do my best to answer them.

It’s the same thing with all this discussion online about how easy and cheap it is to create these audio and video programs (John Furrier). Which begs the question as to why investors are pouring money in (Don Dodge) to start up companies that pool the content from people like us? Naturally, I have a few ideas, but that’s stuff for another show!

Beach Walk #187 – Why I Love Oprah

Why do I love Oprah? Partly because of how money affects her.

h3. About Today’s Show

As far as I can tell from a distance, being successful and making a lot of money has affected Oprah in a very positive way. Her latest generous accomplishment is to build a state of the art school in South Africa, following through on a request from Nelson Mandela four years ago.

Here’s another reason I think I can relate to this story:

bq. “Some people ask me why I never had children,” Oprah says, adding, “Maybe this is the reason. So I can help bring up other peoples’ children, your children. I want you to trust me to bring up your children and I promise I’ll never let you down.”

Who are your generous inspirations? What inspires your generosity? I’d love to hear about it.

Beach Walk #186 – Mellow Monday

Remember, my Sunday-filmed show is our Monday, so let’s start off the week mellow instead of melodrama!

h3. About Today’s Show

I always thought it made perfect sense that more heart attacks occur on Monday mornings than any other time of the week. If I were to have goals for beach walks, one would be to reduce stress in the world. It’s so easy to get caught up in the details and let them drag us down. Of course, the details are where the juice is, so I’m not suggesting they don’t have relevance. It’s just the meaning we attach to them that affects how they affect us. Circular reasoning at its best!

Anyway, the water was like mercury, the air was still, I came across some of the outrigger canoe paddlers from show #183, Lexi is in top form and Secret Cameraman is home from 3 weeks on the mainland! Plus we have a lovely call from Connecticut on the conch line. (Mahalo!) We hope you enjoy the show.
