Beach Walk 694 – Diner’s Fish Report

iPod | 5:05 | To Embed or Email: click above

Fish is a longtime staple in the diet here in Hawaii, and you’ve probably noticed people fishing in the background of many Beach Walks episodes. Yet at the same time fish populations are declining from the large scale commercial operations, that seem to be impervious to the effects of their behavior. If you want to eat fish but don’t know which ones are not threatened, you can now text “FISH” to 30644 right from your phone to find out. This is so convenient – you can do it while perusing a menu.

A while back we added a “plug-in” to this site, that shows the photo or avatar for each commenter, if you have created an account for yourself at “www.gravatar.com”:http://www.gravatar.com. That way any blog that uses this plug-in can display your personal graphic., instead of showing the default pic chosen by the site owner. Your account is attached to your email address, which is always required when you want to leave a comment on a blog. Learn all about how to do it in this episode. I want to see your faces people!

Beach Walk 692 – Master Cleanse, Master Change

Have you heard of the “Master Cleanse”:http://www.mastercleanser.com, sometimes called the Lemon Cleanse? I did a while back for 10 days, and shared a few insights about it in today’s episode. For me, it was not about the specifics of the program as much as it was about taking a dramatic step to wrestle free from some hard to change habits I no longer wanted.

Beach Walk 691 – Doing IT Around the World

iPod | 4:51 | To Embed or Email: click above

I was recently invited to be one of 44 women in technology around the world who on August 11th, documented their day. The goal, organized by Sonja Bernhardt, was to illustrate women in every time zone with diverse technology careers so as to inspire young women to choose tech as a career path. “Visit the web site”:http://www.passionit.info where you can download PDF versions of the women in each region, and a formal book is being published as well. The date was chosen as it is the anniversary of the awarding of a “technology patent to Hedy Lamarr”:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedy_Lamarr. Most of us know her as an actress, but she also helped invent technology that later was the basis of wifi!

“www.passionit.info”:http://www.passionit.info is the main site and here are some of my female colleagues. Please visit them too!

Beach Walk 690 – Rama Warrior Meditation Chair

iPod | 5:07 | To Embed or Email: click above

Beach Walks has a new advertiser, Zen by Design. Today’s episode takes place seated on one of their lovely meditation chairs, which we took out to a rocky point on the edge of the bay. Most people know I am due for some quiet time, and this chair is supporting me in doing that. The company was gracious enough to send us a free chair to sample. And for you they have a special offer too. If you purchase a Rama Warrior Meditation Chair, you receive a Free Zendi Portable Meditation Cushion. Sounds like a perfect plan for you serious meditators who travel to and from various classes, or maybe you want to gift a friend with one and keep the other for yourself. I can envision these in a corner of an office – it’s like having a meditation room, in a very spare uncrowded sense.

I’d like to know what you think of this, and please do send in your photos (or post them in the Reef) if you end up making a purchase! It goes without saying for our eclectic Beach Walks audience that you can pray or work on your laptop as well as officially meditate in the chair! You get to decide how it works for you. Lexi was doing her own sitting meditation quietly today; I suspect she may want to try out the chair too!

Hawaiian Word:
Noho mālie: sit quietly
