I am out of town and left my intended footage back on my main hard drive so I found this remnant from last winter! It's got a mood to it I think, and it's dedicated to dog lovers and long shadows everywhere. The sound is minimal - just the sweet romancing rhythms of gentle late afternoon waves. Co-mingled with Lexi's steady breathing, and a reminder from my friend Lola Jones to "breathe for pleasure." I hope we at Beach Walks can cast a shadow of grace on you today. As I have said many times before, "you meet the coolest people on the beach in Hawaiʻi!" Today we met Chris SantaCroce, aka Uber Shaman. It was his birthday, and he was starting the day at the beach with his puppies. He is a renaissance man - doing a number of things with his talents, and in a beach walks kind of way, spreading cheer and consciousness and geekiness to those he meets! To him, I was "that lady who walks the beach?" Yes, whenever I can!

I cannot stop watching this episode! It was shot by moi, on the little Sanyo Xacti, there are water drops on the lens, it is a little over-exposed and a lot shaky, and of course I wanted more shots. But there was magic on the beach with Lexi this day. Then I heard this beautiful song on Dave's Lounge #106 and I had to put these ingredients together. Sometimes the energy is so much more than the technique - this is true for me, today.

This episode is dedicated to each of you loyal viewers, who so generously receive whatever we share, who shower us with love and affection, who even travel all the way from Canada (and soon from the UK I hope) and share some of your precious vacation time with us.

I don't know how to thank the Shanghai Restoration Project featuring Di Johnston for this beautiful song. I already purchased two copies of the album on http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=271612686&s=143441. I hope you will purchase their music to encourage more of this in our world. As for Dave, I have listened to his podcast from the first episode, and he stands in rare company to have been so focused from the start, and he only gets better.

Our wonderfully thoughtful and generous Beach Walk friend and Guardian Angel on The Reef, Susan, created this Happy Birthday video for our Lexi. Lexi is 8 years old today and continues to be one of the bright lights of our lives. She is also single-handedly responsible for getting us away from our computers and to the B E A C H most days. We have to spell it or else she goes into a circling tizzy when she hears the word spoken.

Seems the more I travel the easier it is for me to get cranky. Today, a RT fare from HNL to DTW to HNL cost $700 but a one-way fare cost $1100! That is not about fuel prices...

Anyway, I am learning to just pull my aura in and focus on myself, in the midst of the madding crowds (and unruly dogs!) And curiously, after an hour or so, people are not bothering me. It's this concept of "hui hui" or blending together without actually having to interact. We get trapped into thinking other people have to change for us to be happy or content, but really, sometimes all that's necessary is to just let it be and focus inward. Have you found this works for you?

My visit with my parents in Florida has had its share of stress; my main tonic has been walking to Starbucks many mornings with friends and enjoying all of the dogs. On Saturday there is a Farmer's Market, and even more dogs! Mahalo to Bob and Anna, David, Sam, Amber, and Barbara for their dog stories. And big wet kisses to all the dogs who give us so much love and joy: Teddy, Winston, Savannah, Bowser, Rica, Molly, Harry and all of you wonders whose names I don't know!

So I have been inwardly cranky about a lot of things the past few weeks - the winter weather, my cold, the fatigue...it just felt like a lot of things in life were not cooperating with me! I finally realized this morning, that most of that pressure was originating with me. It is so easy to get on a track of thinking what should happen, what must happen! You've seen her on Beach Walks before - she is a real charmer. My birthday gift was a trip to the beach, and the sun came out in Kaile's honor, just like the song says. Eric the dad was in Iraq when she was born; lucky me I got to be his stand-in at the birth. He just came home late last year from his second tour, and Shane and Lexi and I are so happy for that and for being friends with the "Funhogs."

By a curious coincidence, Santa came a day early, and the very day after Shane and I watched, Who Killed the Electric Car on DVD last night! Lexi now has her very own limo, and I no longer have to decide between driving around town to do errands (with Lexi's fine company) or using my bicycle and dealing with Lexi's major moping mood at being left at home.

Plus! We will be offsetting about 6 lbs of carbon offset for each little trip to the beach! This definitely feels good, and so do those calories I am going to be burning in my neglected thighs, which hopefully won't be producing too much CO2 either. And in case you are worrying about the calories required to fuel these bike rides, both Lexi and I stay away from McDonald's as a matter of habit.

Yesterday's show comments got me thinking about animals and adventure. I think there is a difference between causing intentional harm and the injuries that result from living life on the edge of adventure. It's a very personal choice, and when it comes to animals whom we caretake, there is thoughtfulness to be considered. It's another example of how I like to look at the whole spectrum of an issue, gather data, and then decide what makes sense to me. Tell me, what of this episode makes sense to you?
