I am out of town and left my intended footage back on my main hard drive so I found this remnant from last winter! It's got a mood to it I think, and it's dedicated to dog lovers and long shadows everywhere. The sound is minimal - just the sweet romancing rhythms of gentle late afternoon waves. It's been a long time since we've been out on the water together. Our friends Eric, Stacey, and Kaile got a new 4-man outrigger canoe. Shane, Eric, and I took it out - saving a seat for you! I have missed being on the water, and hope you enjoy this episode - oh so Hawaii.

I went on a 5-day silent intensive with Lola Jones a few weeks ago. For me it was pure heaven. I have in the past done 24 hours of silence on my birthday, and loved the clarity I experienced. To be able to ignore all others and go within myself for listening, for sharing, for counsel, was very powerful. There is a lot of noise, especially in my work on the social web (twitter, etc) And much as I love it, I was yearning to talk to the divine, to God directly. I can say that the moment we dropped into silence, having prepared for over 2 weeks, my mind came alive with conversation and insight, as if I were seeing my wise best friend after a very long absence.

Curiously enough, I still became quite close to the others on the retreat. We shared the energy of this experience - far more powerful than sharing words, which fail me so much of the time. There was more to this retreat that I will talk about later. For now, I offer up silence as a way to connect with your #1 - your large self, the divine you. And then you become such a gift to others.

Our car is 6.5 yrs old but has only 40,000 miles (eh - living on an island!) I have way more miles in my frequent flier accounts than the odometer of the Ford Escape.

Statistics can prove anything. Old Thinking: That’s bad! New Thinking: Use math to my advantage, to help me feel better, so I become untethered to what is holding me back.

Not to lie or manipulate per se, but to use .5 as half full, OR half empty. Both are true. Which interpretation feels better for me for now?

I personally value emptiness as much as fullness - it all depends on the situation.

Lumiere is a film tradition involving a fixed camera, no editing whatsoever, and typically even no sound. I left the sound in though as I love hearing the waves. Scroll down to the bottom of any page to see a list of all the categories. I love this style especially at the beach - somehow the magic of a minute can capture the serenity, the solitude, the vastness of the ocean, the playfulness of children - all without any words or planning at all.

I am practicing getting out of the way, and letting grace happen. Even Lexi stayed off camera for all but a few frames.

I cannot stop watching this episode! It was shot by moi, on the little Sanyo Xacti, there are water drops on the lens, it is a little over-exposed and a lot shaky, and of course I wanted more shots. But there was magic on the beach with Lexi this day. Then I heard this beautiful song on Dave's Lounge #106 and I had to put these ingredients together. Sometimes the energy is so much more than the technique - this is true for me, today.

This episode is dedicated to each of you loyal viewers, who so generously receive whatever we share, who shower us with love and affection, who even travel all the way from Canada (and soon from the UK I hope) and share some of your precious vacation time with us.

I don't know how to thank the Shanghai Restoration Project featuring Di Johnston for this beautiful song. I did a show on the latent racist tendencies many of us have a few weeks ago, Beach Walk 707, talking about how deeply racism (and other "-isms") reside within our subconscious. Exploring a little further, if we resist the notion and feel guilty or go into denial, then it lingers. Maybe not feeling so burdened or responsible for things before our time can free us to notice when we are acting under the influence, and choose to act differently now.

Are you like me? Staying up late working on my computer tends to make me hungry. It seems like I am burning calories, and that warrants having a snack. Well, apparently the brain is tricking us a bit by creating a hunger connection without the usual caloric expenditure. So over time, the less you sleep and the more you are thinking the more likely you are to gaining weight! Guess it is time to use my brain to ignore what my brain is telling my tummy. This research was done at Laval University in Quebec.

I was thinking about the old Sufi tale about the man and his son, and their changing fortunes/misfortunes, as seen across the span of time. Right now with Podcamp, we have a sponsor Road Runner, who offered us 300 30-second TV spots. Wow, that is an incredible opportunity. Of course, it is also pressure. We've never made a TV commercial before, and had to do this in the span of about 2 weeks. We assembled the "actors" via a Twitter call instead of a casting call, (as described by my friend and participant Neenz)and filmed on location in the Hawaii Convention Center. Shane did his magic on the graphics, and though homemade to be sure, we love it and hope it helps us spread the word about this free event to learn about new media and the social web.

All this led up to my next level of understanding about "flow." It is not so much about smooth, which is my first thought, but about movement. Staying in motion without getting stuck on any particular detail or challenge. Water, the original flow, is regularly both calm and turbulent now isn't it?

I am embarking on a plan to get more balance in my giving and taking. I've tried this before, and I keep ending up on the over-giving side of things in many areas of my life. I am realizing I have some judgment hurdles to dismantle if I am going to be successful at this. But just like exercise, it's important to work the neglected muscles, not just the favorite ones. Knowing me as you do, I thought starting off a Monday with some s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g would be good for most of us! The first two are simple with a bonus yoga stretch at the end. Remember to stretch your upper and lower calves, with a straight leg and a bent leg.

A new social web application I've been playing with called Plurk has a feature called karma points. You earn points by inviting people to join, posting messages, etc. In other words, you earn good karma by promoting their service. I find it irritating, and was discussing this with David Beaudoin, and such was the inspiration for this episode. I find karma to be a concept that mis-places blame where none is due, induces guilt when consciousness is more useful, and confuses genuine feedback aka cause and effect from any given situation with shoulds and should nots. What do you think about karma?

Otherwise, Plurk has some nice features, including a graphical timeline and threaded conversations.

One of the things that stresses me out is all the tasks I collect - business, personal, household, long-range, short-range, recurring and not. Shane, aka Secret Cameraman, recently taught me a method, that so far, I am really liking. I am starting off simple - using a white board and some strategy. If I master this, I will move to the software version. It focuses on collecting everything, but then each day starting fresh with just the things "for today." It supports that "Be here now" philosophy I love so much, and makes mole hills out of mountains. The psychological benefits are delightful.
